The international campaign “Keep Space for Peace Week” in year 2014 was held from Oct. 4 to 11. Gangjeong Peace activists also joined to the joint action with the world.

Oct. 4th, the first day of this year’s Keep Space for Peace Week, was also the 1st international joint action day against surveillance and killing drones. In recent years, numerous innocent children in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen etc. have been indiscrminately killed being the targets of drones, remote-controlled and directed by US and NATO.

This year, South Korea is to introduce Northrop-Grumman –producing Global Hawk, a drone called ‘the satellite of the ground.’ South Korea, which has already been estimated as one of top drone countries along with the United States and Israel has already involved into the market of such surveillance and killing drones.

It is not difficult to imagine that such surveillance and killing drones will be used with the completion of the Jeju naval base. We should watch Jeju neither to be an Island of victim nor an Island of assaulter, by stopping this base project as our 1st step.

On Oct 7th, during the Keep Space for Peace Week, we people in Gangjeong also stand in solidarity with Afghanistan friend remembering the invasion of US has been lasting since Oct 7th, 2001 until today.

On Oct 7th and 8th, while SPARK, an Peace Organization organized a protesting in front of the South Korea Ministry of National Defense in Seoul to stop the Korea government’s purchase of F-35, in front of Jeju Gangjeong Naval Base, we had one-person protesting for the same issue too.

And on Oct 12th, we planned the final action in Jeju Aerospace museum (JAM) where the war game is being taught as a fun hobby and the improvement of aviation and space for war is regarded as the development of human with no shame. We visited the museum with banner to express out that “war is not a game!” and to distribute the brochure to adults with the small pinwheel for kids telling the truth which the museum doesn’t exhibit how people die under the attack of Unmanned aerial vehicle/drone.

We people in Gangjeong, village of life and peace, Jeju, Island of World Peace are against the promotion of war game.
